About This Place

Chef P's Restaurant, nestled in the heart of San Jose at 22 N Jackson Ave, offers an authentic and comforting dive into classic Chinese cuisine that keeps locals and visitors coming back for more. This beloved neighborhood gem specializes in delivering hearty, flavorful dishes with an emphasis on freshness and tradition, all served up in a welcoming, unpretentious atmosphere perfect for family meals or casual dining.

The menu at Chef P's is a treasure trove of popular favorites and crowd-pleasers. The Crispy Calamari is a standout, boasting a perfectly crunchy exterior paired with tender, succulent calamari that melts in your mouth—no wonder it’s a repeat order for many guests. For those craving the warm embrace of classic comfort food, the Orange Chicken with Rice comes with a delightfully tangy and slightly sweet sauce that clings to every bite of tender chicken, while the Kung Pao Chicken Fried Rice offers a beautifully balanced kick of spice and savory flavors with each forkful.

Vegetable lovers will appreciate the vibrant, fresh flavors of the Vegetable Delight and the less salty, perfectly textured House Chow Mein, which offers a comforting harmony of crisp vegetables and tender noodles. The soups, especially the delicate Egg Flower Soup, provide a warm, soothing contrast that’s perfect for all seasons.

Chef P's also shines with their combination plates, such as the Combination #4 featuring Orange Chicken, Pork Fried Rice, and a crispy egg roll—a generous and satisfying choice for anyone looking to sample a little bit of everything. Prices remain reasonable, making it a fantastic spot for both lunch and dinner without compromising quality.

What really brings Chef P's to life, beyond the delicious dishes, is the genuine hospitality. The warmth of the staff and owner, Lloyd, who often personally greets guests, creates a hospitable environment that makes diners feel like part of a small, food-loving family. While the restaurant doesn’t currently feature air conditioning—leading many to opt for takeout during hotter days—the friendly and patient service more than makes up for it.

Reviews echo the consistent quality and friendliness: Customers praise the “fresh and delicious food” and highlight specific favorites like the “soft Salt & Pepper Squid” and “less salty vegetable chow mein,” demonstrating Chef P’s care in balancing flavor profiles. The camaraderie between staff and patrons, along with the home-style cooking, solidifies Chef P’s as a “great mom n pop spot” beloved by the community.

In essence, Chef P’s Restaurant delivers a blend of traditional Chinese culinary comfort with attentive, heartfelt service. Whether you’re craving the crispy calamari, the ginger beef, or the comforting warmth of their chow mein, this spot promises a satisfying meal that feels like a warm embrace in every bite. We got Calamari, Salt & peppers Chicken wings, Beef Chow fun, Shrimps Fried rice, and Chicken Chow Mein. I would definitely come back for the crispy fried calamari. I like the Fried Rice and Chow Fun, but the Chow Mein was really bland. The Salt & Peppers Fried Chickens have too much batter and needed more seasoning.

Great mom n pop spot, Ms. Tammy took my order, she was very pleasant and dutiful, she so fine. Tasty dishes, parking is a lil sketch either side but place seats large families.

Best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. We drove from Central valley to try this restaurant. Every was perfect. Service was amazing and off course so was the food. But what really nice was the owner Lloyd came out to greet us and even sat with us and had a little chat with my family. We are definitely going back to enjoy this amazing place. Thanks Lloyd

My family and I have been going here for years. I've always loved this place soo much. The food today was very different. One of the main reasons that I used to love Chef P's is for their thick chow mein noodles. They were delicious. I'm not a fan of the tiny Panda Express chow mein noodles, they're not very satisfying. Well now Chef P's has thinner noodles, not too thin but not as deliciously thick as the old ones. The orange chicken was very sweet and delicious. The whole meal was great. I'm a lil disappointed in the salt and pepper fish it used to be a light thin piece of batter fries fish with jalapenos and yummy seasoning. Now it's a very thick dry well seasoned piece of fish. The service was AMAZING! The young man running the register was a super thoughtful, sweet man. Overall the food is delicious I just couldn't give it 5 stars because I miss the old food. Everything else is great and I highly recommend this place.
